Evaluate reusable open-source components
Reuse can reduce duplicated work when a component fits your requirements. Evaluate the specific version you intend to use, including the work needed to maintain it.
Begin with one capability
Describe the behavior the component must provide, its inputs and outputs, and the environment it will run in. Compare alternatives against the same requirement. A popular project may still be unsuitable for your data, performance needs, or deployment constraints.
Keep a traceable source
CSR Create supports GitHub component discovery, comparison, and selection. Keep the repository identity and commit pin with the decision so a later developer can inspect the same source. External search can be limited by provider quotas. An unavailable search result is not evidence that no suitable component exists.
Check the terms and integration
Read the license and any dependency notices. Check whether the component can run in your chosen environment, whether it needs external services, and how it handles failures. Budget for updates and testing. A displayed license identifier or selected component does not establish legal clearance, security review, or successful integration.
Preserve the decision
Record why a candidate was selected or rejected and which questions remain. Keep those decisions with your architecture and exported handoff. Verify the integrated behavior in your own application before relying on it. Marketplace release records and registered proposal records describe different kinds of evidence; inspect the scope of each.
